Southeastern Named NABC Team of the Week

Southeastern Community College Men's Basketball was selected as the National Association of Basketball Coaches Team of the Week for January 1-7. They become the second team to earn the honor as the NABC began recognizing junior colleges back in December.

In his first full season as the Blackhawks head coach, Lorenzo Watkins has Southeastern rolling on all cylinders. Now with a record of 16-2, the Blackhawks started off 2018 by defeating John Wood Community College 69-61, extending their winning streak to 10 games. In the latest poll released today (Jan. 9), Southeastern surged into the top 25. They are now ranked 20th in all of NJCAA Division I Men's Basketball. Also in the top 25 are Indian Hills (18-0), still sitting at No. 3 and Iowa Western (15-2), who are right behind the Blackhawks, ranked 21st.

Southeastern is led by a trio of guards; Patrick Johnson, Kourney Ware and Victor Nwagbaraocha. Each of which are averaging 13 or more points.

The Blackhawks have a tough week ahead as they will take on reigning Division II National Championship, Southwestern. Additionally, they will face Indian Hills on Saturday as they open 2018 conference play.
