Kirkwood Holds on for Tenth District Win in a Row
SIOUX CITY, Iowa – The Kirkwood Eagles claimed their tenth consecutive North Central District Championship on Tuesday at Whispering Creek Golf Course, prevailing in a tight contest that came down to the final round. The Eagles finished with a three-day total of +4, edging out Northeast by three strokes.
The final day featured a thrilling head-to-head battle between Kirkwood and Northeast, with both teams exchanging the lead throughout the round. Ultimately, Kirkwood pulled away on the back nine to seal the victory.
Leading the way for the Eagles was Quinn Tinkler, who earned runner-up honors with a 1-under-par performance across three rounds. Teammates Nathan Offerman and Reid Hall both delivered clutch final rounds, vaulting more than ten spots on the leaderboard to finish tied for seventh at +5. Tate Brunk, who had been inside the top 10 entering the final day, rounded out Kirkwood's strong team showing with a +9 finish in 17th place.
Despite finishing second as a team, Northeast made a strong statement with three golfers in the top six. Bryson Parker dominated the final two rounds en route to the individual championship, finishing at an impressive 10-under-par—nine strokes clear of the field. On Tuesday, in the final round, Parker shot a tournament-best 6-under 66, expanding on to his Day 2 lead and riding it to the finish line.
Tyler Baumchen secured third place at +1, while Luke Bonser claimed sixth at +3.
Southeast (Neb.) secured the final team qualification spot for the NJCAA National Tournament, finishing third. Hawkeye narrowly missed out in fourth place at +30, but standout sophomore Kaeden Anderson earned an individual national bid with his +1 finish, good for a tie for third overall. Like Parker, Anderson fired a 6-under 66 on the final day.
Iowa Central, Southwestern, and Iowa Lakes placed fifth through seventh, respectively. Southwestern's Freddie Muggeridge tied for seventh individually at +5, earning an individual berth to the National Tournament.
In other ICCAC team finishes, DMACC placed ninth, NIACC finished tenth, and Southeastern came in 13th.
