Region 11 Men's Outdoor Track & Field All-Region Honored
The 2025 Men's Outdoor Track & Field All-Region teams were announced Monday following the Region 11 Championships, which once again showcased the depth and dominance of Iowa Western. The Reivers claimed their fourth consecutive Region 11 title, finishing 55 points ahead of the competition and winning 11 of the 22 events. For a second straight year, Head Coach David Burnett was named Coach of the Year after leading his team to another commanding performance.
Barnabas Ndiwa of Iowa Western earned the title of Track Athlete of the Year after a remarkable season highlighted by his NJCAA-leading time in the 10,000 Meters. Ndiwa clocked a 28:52.94 at the Bryan Clay Invitational on April 16, the fastest time in the nation and one of the most impressive performances of the year at any level of junior college competition.
Field Athlete of the Year honors went to Indian Hills' Tate Joens, who displayed exceptional consistency and versatility in the throws. Joens ranked in the top ten nationally in three events. In the Shot Put, he reached a season-best 17.48 meters at the Jim Duncan Invitational. He also threw 52.24 meters in the Discus at the Emporia State Relays, ranking ninth in the NJCAA, and recorded a 59.13-meter Hammer Throw at the Jim Duncan Invitational, which ranks second nationally this season.
Two Region 11 meet records were broken this year. Gabriel Ortiz of Iowa Western shattered the Javelin record on his final throw, launching it 63.45 meters to secure the title by nearly a full meter. Fellow Reiver Yekini Bowen set a new meet record in the Discus with a throw of 57.84 meters, surpassing the previous mark held since 2016 by Iowa Central's Brian Williams.
Additional event winners for Iowa Western included Nikkolia Kennedy in the 110 Meter Hurdles, Michael Francois in the 400 Meters, and Ali Benzem in the 800 Meters. The Reivers also took first in the 4x400 Relay, with a squad composed of Charmar Smith, Francois, Osman Saeed, and Jordan Edwards.
