ICCAC Men's Outdoor Track & Field Produces Five Individual National Champions
HUTCHINSON, Kan. – The 2025 National Outdoor Track & Field Championships showcased outstanding performances from ICCAC teams, who claimed individual national titles in five different events.
All three ICCAC schools participating in the Championships finished in the top five of the team standings. Iowa Western secured third place with 83 points, followed closely by Indian Hills in fourth with 70 points, and Iowa Central in fifth with 41 points.
Indian Hills led the way with three national titles. The first came in the 800 Meters, won by freshman Raynier Galvez in a tight finish with a time of 1:50.66. He edged out Said Rifi Loutfi from Iowa Central by just 0.1 seconds, marking the third consecutive year the Warriors have taken the 800 Meter crown.
Tate Joens, after falling just short of a national title in 2024, dominated the Hammer Throw this season. He recorded a personal-best of 59.99 meters, outdistancing the runner-up by four meters to claim gold.
The third title for Indian Hills came in the 4x800 Meter Relay, which the team won for the second consecutive year despite featuring different athletes. The squad—Jaquan Coke, Nichalas Power, Cayde de Waal, and Galvez—posted a winning time of 7:25.59, finishing a full second ahead of the competition.
For Iowa Western, Michael Francois captured the national championship in the 400 Meters with a time of 45.40. In a thrilling, picture-perfect finish, the race was decided by hundredths of a second—Francois edged out the tie with a final time of 45.391.
Mohamed Dahmouch of Iowa Central claimed the title in the 1500 Meters, delivering one of his top performances of the season with a time of 3:46.06. He won by three-tenths of a second, narrowly missing his personal best of 3:45.96.
Five Second Team All-American honors were awarded to athletes from all three ICCAC schools.
From Iowa Central, Said Rifi Loutfi finished second in the 800 Meters with a 1:50.87. Their 4x800 Meter Relay team—Saad Rifi Loutfi, Soufyane Laaziz, Taha Ouchene, and Said Rifi Loutfi—also earned Second Team honors with a time of 7:26.96.
Iowa Western saw strong second-place finishes from both Barnabas Ndiwa, who ran a 29:33.13 in the 10,000 Meter Run, and Lebon Attoungbre, who leapt 16.34 meters in the Triple Jump.
Indian Hills added another Second Team All-American in the Discus with Michael Etuma, who threw 57.44 meters to place second.
Three athletes earned Honorable Mention recognition. From Indian Hills, Nichalas Power ran a 1:51.13 in the 800 Meter Run, and Kaden Banks recorded a 16.92-meter throw in the Shot Put. Bongumusa Nkosi of Iowa Central also earned honors with a time of 20.86 in the 200 Meters.
