2026 Region 11 Men's Outdoor Track and Field Honors Announced
The 2026 Men's Outdoor Track and Field All-Region teams were announced Thursday following the Region 11 Championships. Iowa Central, Indian Hills and Iowa Western each took home a special award after the closest Outdoor Region 11 Championships since 2021. The special awards were voted on by the coaches.
Raynier Galvez or Indian Hills was voted Track Athlete of the Year after a campaign in which he not only set an NJCAA record in the 800 meters, but also still leads all collegiate runners this season in the event. Galvez ran 1:44.14 in April, which was a personal best, a school record and an NJCAA record. His time beat the previous record of 1:46.88, set in 2022.
Iowa Central's Haydn Stockdale was named Field Athlete of the Year, dominating the NJCAA in the hammer throw all season long. At the Region 11 Championships, Stockdale broke the meet record with a mark of 60.72 meters in the hammer throw. His best mark of the year is 62.33 meters, which leads the NJCAA, and he is one of only two throwers to break the 60-meter mark. Stockdale has consistently thrown above 60 meters throughout the season.
After Iowa Western won a fifth consecutive Outdoor Track and Field Region Championship, David Burnett was named the ICCAC Coach of the Year. The Reivers won by 1.5 points, won nine events, and set two meet records at the regional meet.
The top three finishes in each event at the regional championship determined first-team, second-team and honorable mention honors. The Reivers placed the most performers on the First Team All-Region list, with nine event winners and 10 individuals earning the accolade.
Among the standout performers for the Reivers are Gabriel Ortiz, Pierre Carlier and Rajay Hemmings.
Ortiz set a Region 11 meet record in the javelin throw with a mark of 67.23 meters, setting a personal best and the fourth-best mark in the NJCAA this season. Carlier was a point-getter for the Reivers with two event wins, the 1,500 meters and the 5,000 meters, where he set a personal best. Hemmings took first in the shot put and discus throws, earning his team invaluable points. In the shot put, he threw 18.41 meters to break a meet record, set a personal best and take the top spot in the NJCAA this season.
Three individuals swept the jumping events for Iowa Western: August Anderson in the high jump, Josh Carter in the long jump and Taj Wilson in the triple jump. Carter's jump of 7.35 meters is currently a top-15 mark in the NJCAA this season.
The Reivers' 4x400 meter relay team of Jordan Edwards, Joshua Perry, Keone John and Cyril Sumner took the title, earning First Team All-Region honors.
Iowa Central had eight individuals earn First Team All-Region honors, including three record-breaking performances.
Highlighting the group of Tritons is Soufyane Laaziz, who broke the Region 11 meet record in the 800 meters with a time of 1:47.33 and then proceeded to break the meet record in the 4x800 meter relay with teammates Saad Rifi Loutfi, Said Rifi Loutfi and Taha Ouchene.
Other track winners included Emmanuel Kiplagat in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and Chakib Cherkaoui Rhazounani in the 10,000 meters. In the field events, Alan Lefevre stood atop the podium as he cleared a mark of 4.10 meters in the pole vault.
Indian Hills had a great showing, sweeping the sprint events and sending seven individuals to First Team All-Region.
Highlighting the efforts of the Warriors are Damor Miller and Izaiah Loveless, who both claimed two titles. Miller took first in the 100 meters and Loveless in the 200 meters, while both combined with teammates Joseph Cannon and Hector Benjamin to win the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 40.05. Miller currently holds the top time in the NJCAA in the 200 meters and the fifth-best time in the 100 meters.
Rounding out the top Warriors are Yberson Alexandre, Devonni Ferguson and Kameron Hall. Alexandre took first in the 110-meter hurdles, Ferguson in the 400 meters and Hall in the 400-meter hurdles.
Wrapping up the First Team All-Region honorees is Hawkeye's Ryan Leonard, who dominated the decathlon with a score of 5,468.
