Southwest Virginia Community College Falls To Surry Community College: Game 1
Surry jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first inning. Campbell doubled to drive in two runs, Robertson grounded out to bring home another, and Hannah singled to plate two more. Surry tacked on another run in the third, courtesy of a Morgan double to center.
Campbell picked up the win for Surry, going seven innings and allowing eight hits and six runs—only two of them earned—while striking out six and walking four. Pyles took the loss for Southwest Virginia, pitching all seven innings and giving up 10 runs (nine earned) on 12 hits, striking out three and walking six.
Stanley set the table for Southwest Virginia at the top of the order, finishing 2-for-4. Alvarado, Pyles, Milam, and Singleton each drove in a run. Sturgill led the team with two walks, as Southwest Virginia showed patience at the plate, drawing four walks overall. The team also turned two double plays on defense.
Surry Community College piled up 12 hits in the win. Hannah drove in three runs from the eighth spot in the lineup, going 1-for-3 on the day. Yates led all hitters with a 3-for-4 performance, while Robertson and Morgan each had multiple hits. Craig drew two walks to pace Surry, which finished with six free passes as a team.
