The sports shooting regular season is coming to a close this fall, where teams will have one last chance to go head-to-head to bring home the hardware.
The East and West Trap divisions both had one team end the season with a clean record; Hawkeye going 4-0 in the East, and Iowa Central 5-0 in the West.
In the East, Hawkeye outscored opponents in competition 1955 to 1809, always walking home with a large margin of victory. Gavin Sims is one of three shooters in the conference to leave a meet shooting a perfect 100. Colton Crooks led the RedTails to multiple wins with his consistent scores week in and week out, averaging a score of 98. As a team, Hawkeye averages 488.75 points per meet.
Iowa Central went undefeated in the West division for the third year straight, going 5-0. The Tritons have the largest point differential with it being +282 through five meets. Chayden Wright led Iowa Central in points with 483 points total, and an average of 96.6. Braiden Hurd left their last meet on a hot streak, where he was the other shooter to score a perfect 100 in a meet.
The reigning champion, Iowa Western is also a competitive team, only dropping one meet on the year to Iowa Central. Jacob Slieter looks to push the Reivers to win the championship this year, to complete a back-to-back season.
Competition at an all time high with sports shooting in its sixth season of competition. Last year it came down to a final shootout between Iowa Central and Iowa Western to win the championship -- with the Reivers coming out on top.
Skeet and sporting clays will also be shot over the weekend. Iowa Western won the quad-shoot with the West teams (Iowa Central, Northwest Iowa & Southwestern) on Oct. 13, while Hawkeye took the triangular with the East team (Indian Hills and Southeastern) on Oct. 1.
