Game of the Week: #25 Iowa Lakes def. #12 NIACC, 63-57
Iowa Lakes drove into Mason City on a snowy December Saturday and picked up a ranked road victory with a 63-57 upset of No. 12 NIACC.
The Lakers jumped on the Trojans from the opening tip, holding NIACC to back-to-back single-digit quarters (nine and eight) and taking a 32-17 lead into halftime. The advantage ballooned to as many as 22 points during the third quarter.
From there, the Trojans worked their way back into the game in the fourth quarter. Trailing by 16 entering the period, NIACC cut the deficit to two possessions but could not overcome its early-game struggles.
Iowa Lakes, now 9-3 overall and a perfect 5-0 in ICCAC play, was led by Tavara Swonger. The freshman guard scored 15 points to lead the Lakers while adding a team-high nine rebounds, three assists and four steals. Erica Welsh also reached double figures with 10 points on 5-of-9 shooting and added five rebounds.
For the Trojans, Reggi Spotts finished with 16 points and four steals in the loss. Ciara Seifert recorded a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 15 rebounds.
Iowa Lakes will face Iowa Western at home in its final conference test of the 2025 calendar year. NIACC, now 10-2 overall and 4-2 in the ICCAC, travels to Marshalltown for its final game before the break.
