Game of the Week: Northeast def. (RV) DMACC, 63-59

Northeast delivered a gritty, late-game statement Wednesday night at the Cox Activities Center, rallying in the final seconds to knock off DMACC, 63–59. The Hawks trailed 59–57 with 16 seconds remaining before burying a well-set-up three to take the lead and ignite the home crowd.

DMACC struck first and controlled the early tempo, building a 15–10 lead after the opening quarter, but Northeast settled in during the second period and flipped the momentum by winning the frame 18–13 to pull even at 28–28 at halftime. The Bears briefly regained control coming out of the break, edging the third quarter 16–15 to take a 44–43 advantage into the final 10 minutes, setting up a tight finish. Northeast saved its best for last, outscoring DMACC 20–15 in the fourth as the Hawks' late surge turned a two-point deficit into a four-point win at the horn.

A big reason the game stayed within one or two possessions throughout was DMACC's offensive struggle to find a rhythm. The Bears shot just 22-of-78 from the floor and 6-of-25 from three, numbers that made it difficult to fully separate even when they had the lead, and left little margin for error once Northeast started landing shots late.

Northeast was paced all night by Aaliyah Jones, who turned in a dominant line with 30 points on 11-of-19 shooting to go with nine rebounds and two steals, consistently getting downhill and producing when the Hawks needed a steady scorer. The outburst also added to a growing list of big nights for Jones this season, making her one of only two women's basketball players to score 30+ points in an ICCAC matchup this season. In the closing moments, Jana Lopez delivered the signature play, burying the go-ahead corner three late, and Paige Hawkins set it up with the assist as Northeast stayed composed and finished the game-winning push to secure the 63–59 victory.

DMACC was led by Chloe Costello with 18 points to keep the Bears within striking distance, while Reagan Wheeler controlled the glass with a team-high 10 rebounds and battled for extra possessions in a physical game. Mariam Omran added 11 points and had key touches late as DMACC looked for a final answer, but the Bears' shooting struggles and Northeast's late execution proved to be the difference.

To close out the regular season, Northeast will travel to Council Bluffs to take on Iowa Western on Wednesday, February 25, at 5:30 P.M.

DMACC will have one last attempt to regain their midseason momentum before the postseason, hosting Ellsworth on Wednesday, February 25, at 5:30 P.M. in Boone, Iowa.

Both teams are in the postseason, with some seeding left to play out.
