Indian Hills Wins First Midwest District Championship in Program History
MARYVILLE, Mo. - In just their second season of competition, Indian Hills won its first district championship in women's golf history on Tuesday behind a team score of 627 (+51).
Leading the Warriors was sophomore Poppy Norcott who finished in first place with a two-day total of 151 (+7). Her score placed her four strokes ahead of second place. Norcott became the first-ever individual district champion for IHCC as well. She connected on four birdies during the tournament, including three in the final round alone to separate herself from the rest of the field.
Other Indian Hills golfers were Jade Blakeley, who shot a total of 155 (+11) -- finishing tied for second and Mackenzie Reeves, who finished in fifth place with a total of 158 (+14).
Iowa Western finished in second place with total of 644 (+68) behind key peformances from Olivia Holyoak-Church and Nina Lesbros.
Holyoak-Church finished with a score 155 (+11) to place tied for second. She fired three birdies during the tournament. Lesbros finished in fourth place after shooting a 156 (+12) -- which was a strong recovery after bogeying the first six holes of the tournament.
Also finishing in the top 10 individually were Taylor Pacheco (Indian Hills), Skylar Benjamin (Iowa Western), Sofia Saavedra (Indian Hills), Jennifer Cho (Iowa Western), and Kellie Peitzmeier (Iowa Western).
Both teams qualified for the NJCAA Division I Women's Golf National Championship from May 11-14 in Coal Valley, Ill.
