"I'm excited about it," NIACC coach Steve Kelly said. "I told the guys that the team that wins it goes 4-0 and the team that gets fifth goes 4-1.
"Our guys did a great job. They fought and it was nice to see them grow together."
Sophomore Blake Spotts (Nora Springs, Ia.) picked up two pins at 141 pounds in Sunday's duals. He pinned RCTC's Label Lewis in 2:38 and stuck Muskegon's Andrew Nold in 1:45.
"Sometimes he's a bit unorthodox," Kelly said, "and he's going to make me go bald or gray, but he finds a way to do it."
Freshman Nosomy Pozo (Miami, Fla.) went 2-0 Sunday with a pair of technical falls at 149, freshman Yoanse Mejias (Miami, Fla.) was 2-0 with a pin and a decision at 157, freshman Andy Glasier (Ionia, Ia.) was 2-0 with a technical fall and a decision at 184 and sophomore Shakheim Chapman (Gurnee, Ill.) was 2-0 with a forfeit and a decision at 197.
In the dual against Muskegon, NIACC's Sha-Keno Jenkins (Ellenwood, Ga.) upset second-ranked Lukas Gilmore, 6-3. Gilmore knocked off top-ranked Northwest Wyoming's Diorian Coleman 6-1 in their dual meet on Saturday.
"I like where we are at," Kelly said. "Now, we just worry about correcting the things we are doing wrong."
NIACC returns to action Wednesday at home in a dual meet against No. 5 Ellsworth. The dual starts at 7 p.m. in the NIACC recreation center.
