Indian Hills Edges Iowa Central To Win North Central District Title
COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa - It was a two team race at the 2025 North Central District Championships on Sunday. In the end, Indian Hills prevailed with a 4.5 point win over Iowa Central to take home their second title in team history and first since 2021.
The Warriors, who won their first title in Council Bluffs as well, won six of the 10 weight classes. Riley Bettich took the 125 pound weight class. The No. 1 ranked 133 pounder was inserted as the team's 125 representative and earned two pins on his way to the crown.
Gayvn Whitehead won at 141 from the No. 1 seed as well.
At 149, Shehabeldin Mohamed worked his way from the No. 4 see to win three straight matches. He picked up a 4-3 decision over Gary Walker III of Iowa Central. Mohamed won a bracket with three ranked wrestlers in it -- and he not being one of them.
Down 7-0 in the championship bout, Brice Coleman turned the table on Iowa Central's Chance Davis and pinned him to win at 157.
Returning All-American Jaquan East powered his way through 184 as did Nassir Edmonds at 285.
Indian Hills qualified all 10 of their wrestlers for the National Championships and had all 10 on the medal podium at the end of the day.
As the runner up, Iowa Central took the other four weight classes not won by Indian HIlls. Drew Cooper won 133 with two Tech Falls from the No. 1 seed position.
Kaden King won 165 beating No. 9 Emmanuel Celestin of NIACC in the final.
Lawrence Rosario, one of the four returning All-Americans at the tournament, won 174 -- giving him back-to-back district championship crowns after winning in Estherville last season.
In one of the biggest upsets of the day, Coen Grimm took down NJCAA No. 1 Andrew Marquez in 197. The two battled into an extra period where the match was decided by a grab called on Indian Hills' Marquez. The Warriors corner pleaded that it was incidental, but the call stood and Grimm earned the sudden victory.
As did Indian Hills, Iowa Central sent every through to the National Tournament. So did Iowa Western and NIACC who finished third and fourth respectively.
Of the 69 participating wrestlers, 58 of them advanced to nationals by way of automatic qualifying, wild card selection or one of the 10 spots reserved for an extra qualifier for the region as the host of the tournament.
All qualified wrestlers will wait three weeks until they return to Council Bluffs on Marcy 7-8.
