Seven Women's Soccer Players Earn All-American Status
The NJCAA released the 2022 Women's Soccer All-American teams on Tuesday, with seven ICCAC players earning the designation.
The ICCAC produced the 2022 NJCAA Division I National Champions, the Iowa Western Reivers -- and from their group, three players took home postseason aknowledgements.
Two First Teamers were ICCAC Player of the Year Hanna Schimmer, and ICCAC goal-scoring leader Marta Llopis. Schimmer had 20 goals and 13 assists over the course of 23 games -- good for 8th most in the country in both categories -- which resulted in the fourth most points in the country at 53. She was also named the National Tournament Most Valuable Player.
Llopis had 22 goals, leading all ICCAC Division I players -- along with seven assists, for a total of 51 points. She was named the NJCAA Tournament Offensive MVP.
Joining the two touted freshman forwards was their midfield teammate, Pilar Casas. Casas, another freshman, was one of the nation's top distributors. She had 15 assists, tied for fourth-most in the country. Casas was a Second Team All-American selection.
The fourth and final selection from the ICCAC Division I schools was Alexis Vasquez. The third-year forward had a strong season for Iowa Lakes -- earning her third straight First Team All-Region designation. The forward had 17 goals and 13 assists to earn her Second Team status.
From Division II, three Northeast Hawks were named to the All-American lists -- Taryn O'Brien, Mackenzie Stokes and Aidyn Woodall.
With the Hawks being the top scoring team in the country and reaching the National Tournament, their top performers were awarded as such. Taryn O'Brien was a First Team Selection after being named the ICCAC Division II Player of the Year. She finished second in the country in goals (31) and eight in assists (17).
Stokes and Woodall were Second Team choices -- Woodall led the country in assists with 25, three more than second place -- and paired it with 24 goals for a grand total of 73 points, third-most in the country and six behind O'Brien.
Stokes had 14 goals, 13 assists and 41 points.
