Match of the Week: #19 Indian Hills def. #20 Iowa Western, 3-2
This ranked matchup between #19 Indian Hills and #20 Iowa Western lived up to its hype and more.
The Reivers were looking for payback after being swept by the Warriors in September; however, they came up just short. This time around, Iowa Western came out hot, winning the first set convincingly, 25-14. The cheers did not last long. Indian Hills answered with two sets of their own by scores of 25-18 and 25-14. The Reivers were able to take the fourth set 25-21, before eventually falling to the Warriors 15-10 in the final set.
The stat sheet was full for Indian Hills, both offensively and defensively. Leading the way for the Warriors was Farah Sherif, who gathered an astounding 18 kills, 18 digs, 3 blocks, and 1 ace. Piper Nelson added 14 kills of her own, with Luana Silva Ferreira also contributing 12. The Warriors' scoring was aided by Ana Luiza Caminha Matos, who now holds the top spot in the ICCAC with 53 assists in a single conference game.
For Iowa Western, Marian Vega led with 13 kills, Callie Squiers worked on both sides, boasting 39 assists and 15 digs, and Nanako Maeda also contributed with 15 digs and 3 aces.
The win moves Indian Hills to an overall record of 16-5 and a conference record of 2-0. The Warriors will be at home against Hawkeye on Thursday, October 16th.
Iowa Western now sits with a 21-8 overall record for the year, 0-2 in conference. The Reivers will get one more chance at the Warriors on October 30th, in Ottumwa.
